Becoming An Accredited Professional Photographer with the AIPP

This week was most exciting for me. I achieved a goal that’s been 2 years in the making. Well, perhaps many more years than that, but a specific goal that I set 2 years ago as I sat at my desk, working in my less than inspiring office job. I decided it was absolutely time to work for what I really wanted out of life. It was time to stop going around in career circles.

I’d saved up and bought my first SLR camera when I was in high school. I learnt photography from my Grandfather and always loved the way you could manipulate the way light in captured in this little instrument. I never considered it as a profession back then, it was something I loved more so because I could spend time with my Grandpa and brother who was very technically savvy with photographic equipment.

So 2 years ago, I joined the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) because it was an organisation I knew my Grandfather had been involved with during his professional career. I looked into the services they offered and the other photographers who were members. The photographers seemed a step above the rest and the idea of continuous learning and support through the AIPP sounded like the perfect step in the direction I’d hoped to succeed in. So I signed up as an emerging member.

I remained an emerging member for the obligatory 2 years before submitting my portfolio for accreditation. I’m so excited and proud to call myself a Professional Photographer, and having this accreditation adds another notch to my belt as I make the journey further into this profession…
